WHAT TO DO IN THE AREA
If you have a couple of days here then here’s a few things we recommend doing:
Around Ashridge House
There are lovely woodland walks around the venue and also from Ashridge monument where there is a cafe and tower you can walk up. There is also a cafe, Bakehouse, at Ashridge House which is th perfect place to grab lunch before the wedding. Just be aware it gets super busy so allow some time!
Berkhamsted
Town - the town is a lovely market town full of nice shops, loads of cafes, pubs and a market on the morning of the wedding. If you have a few hours to kill this would be a good place to wonder around.
Antiques market - will be on Berkhamsted high street on the Sunday after the wedding
Canal fields playground - If you have kids then this playground is the best in the area. The bridge next to it will take you over the canal to Waitrose and the town beyond that.
If you need to get the train back to London you can do so most easily from here.
Tring - where we live
Town - Tring is much smaller than Berkhamsted but has a lovely little high street with a few gift-y shops and cafes. I like Nonna’s and Culture Bakery. Memorial gardens is a beautiful peaceful garden with a pond to drink your coffee in.
Natural History Museum - Tring has its own Natural History Museum where you can find almost any animal taxidermied. It’s free and a weird little outing. Look out for the fleas in their Victorian finery.
Tring reservoirs - a nice place for a walk with a decent cafe at the end
Aldbury
Aldbury is a picturesque little village very close to Ashridge. It’s been featured in a few films and tv shows. There are a couple of pubs and cafes. If you fancy a walk you can walk there from Ashridge monument.
Aldbury playground - There is a nice little playground if you have kids with bonus donkeys. It’s nestled in the allotments.
