CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Jewellery traits
House Thirteen jewellery is crafted from high quality sterling silver, with gold pieces then dipped in 18-carat gold. We plate our gold pieces in a thicker layer than the industry standard for a higher quality and longer-lasting finish.
As each piece of jewellery is handmade, there may be some slight variations between them, making each one unique.
The higher the quality of silver, the softer and, therefore, more malleable it is. This allows all bangles to be adaptable to fit different wrist sizes, but please take care when adjusting and handling your jewellery to avoid mis-shaping or breakage.
We pride ourselves on only using high quality materials sculpted by skilled silversmiths to ensure that, with a little bit of love, you can enjoy your jewellery for a lifetime.
Jewellery care
To help preserve your jewellery and minimise tarnishing, simply follow our few tips.
Sterling silver, gold-plated and vermeil jewellery
Keep it dry: To keep your jewellery from tarnishing and to preserve the gold plating, we advise you to keep it dry and away from lotions and potions. It is therefore best to apply perfume and beauty products before your jewellery. Also remember to remove it before washing your hands, showering, swimming or cleaning, particularly the gold-plated and vermeil pieces as this can weaken the gold layer.
Store it well: Store your jewellery individually to avoid scratches from other pieces and tarnishing from too much exposure to air, ideally in your House Thirteen pouch or box.
Clean it: A gentle wipe with a soft cloth will keep your jewellery looking fresh. Never use abrasive chemicals. If it needs more of a scrub then a bowl of warm water and a drop of washing up liquid does wonders. Alternatively you can use specialised silver and gold products, or take it to your local jewellers for a professional clean.
The best way to preserve sterling silver is actually to wear it often, so enjoy.
Gemstone jewellery
To ensure that your gemstone bracelets and necklaces retain their shine and stay in one piece, please take good care of it with these following tips.
Don’t sleep in it: This applies to all jewellery but for gemstone jewellery in particular removing it will avoid stretching as you move in your sleep.
Keep it dry: Although the beads are technically waterproof, it’s best not to submerge them or get them soaking wet as this can weaken the thread inside. So please remove before showering and bathing, and especially swimming in your gemstone jewellery. We also advise keeping it away from lotions and potions and adding jewellery as your final touch.
Be mindful of stretching and snags: Always use the clasp when putting on and removing your bracelets, rather than stretching them over your hand. We also advise removing when exercising to avoid them getting caught on anything.
Store it well: Store your beaded jewellery separately to keep it safe; our pouch or box is ideal for this, or safely in your jewellery box to avoid tangling.
If it needs a little clean then a wipe with a soft cloth will do the job.
