How to Choose the Perfect Jewellery Gift This Christmas

Jewellery is (in my unbiased opinion) the best Christmas gift. The definition of a treat, something they may not buy for themselves, and always super thoughtful. But how can you ensure you get it right? I know it can feel like a risk, especially if you are upping the budget this year. So, before you go any further, ask yourself these questions and ensure you hit the mark this Christmas.

(And if you needed an insurance policy, we’ve extended returns over the Christmas period so they can return or exchange their gift up until 30th January 2025. No risk gifting.)

  1. What colour metal do they usually wear?

This seems basic, but you would be surprised how many people get this wrong. Next time you see the recipient, look at what metal they tend to wear, or look back at pictures of them, and go with that. And if it’s a mix then either go with what they wear the most of or choose the colour that you like best in that design.

If you’re going for a gemstone bracelet, then notice what colour clothes they tend to wear. Do they choose more cool tones? Go for the blue azurite or cherry agate. Are they warmer reds, browns and yellows? Go with yellow jade, purple, pink or mixed gemstones. Are they neutral? Then the black or yellow jade is your friend, or a mixed gemstone to pop. Do they not have a particular palette? Go with a mixed gemstone or choose a solid based colour (black, blue, purple, pink or yellow). If you need help, we’re just at the end of an email or DM.

2. Necklaces - do they prefer short or longer chains?

Have a look at what length of necklace they wear. Do they prefer shorter chains to sit higher on their chest, or longer chains to go over their top? Or a mix? For short chains, the Foundation Bar and Fan necklace are your best bet. The Stack necklace is a beautiful classic long chain. Our Drape styles - Rise and Drop - are perfect for a mix as they are double-stranded ready-made versatile layers. For a bit of fun, the gemstone necklace adds a bit of colour and is so beautiful in person.

3. Do they have an earring type?

Are they a simple studs person? Do they live in hoops? Or are they more a dangly earring type? Do they have one piercing or loads? Maybe a mix depending on the day? It’s often nice to gift people something different that they may never have chosen but if they only wear utility studs and nothing else then maybe best to steer away from the neck-brushing danglies. Our Huggies are perfect for those with multiple piercings as the wearer can switch out which hole they wear them in.

4. Do you know their ring size?

If you’re buying a ring, do you know their size? If not, see if you can get your hands on a ring they already own and use our ring size guide to work out the size. Or send us the measurements and we’ll do that for you. If you can’t get hold of a ring, then take a guess and rest assured knowing that they have up to the end of January to exchange it for the correct size with our extended Christmas returns.

5. What is their usual style? And do you want to stick to it?

Do they have a distinct style or can you try something new?

Are they a minimalist beauty - go for a Foundation or Drop piece.

Do they love art and design - go for our Rise or Stack designs.

Are they a timeless, vintage lover - go for our vintage hoop collection.

Maybe they’re a little boho at heart - a gemstone piece or talisman (coming soon) is your friend.

The choice to play it safe and stick to their style, or introduce them to something a little different this Christmas is totally up to you and we are here to help.

For something special, go for the more designed art-deco styles, a statement piece to add to their base to elevate their look once in a while, a Foundation bangle too add a touch quiet luxury, or one of our Drape-style necklaces.

6. Budget

Before you answer any of these questions think about what you’re happy to spend on the person and go to our related “gifts under £x” tab on our menu. Then your eyes won’t be tempted to wonder above your budget. This year we have a NEW selection of easy gift-able pieces under £30, as well as our finer jewellery options. Whichever you choose, each gift is wrapped in a black box, with earrings and rings coming in a soft faux suede gift pouch, all tied up with a bow so whatever your budget the recipient will think it’s higher ;)

We (me!) are always here to help with your Christmas gifting. Tell us a little about your recipient and we will help you find the perfect gift for them. If you want to make your gift a bit more personal then pop a little note in the “notes” section at checkout and we will handwrite your message with your gift, and if you have any other requests to make Christmas a bit more special this year please don’t hesitate to ask via email, DM or the notes section of your order and I’ll get back to you.
